Come see us on Earth Day at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park Saturday

Come and see us at the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 22nd, from 10 AM until 3 PM. We will have a table and will have some discount coupons for the ReStores.

Habitat for Humanity has always supported a greener world and one of our mottos for the ReStores is Recycle, Reuse, and Repurpose. Donating gently used items to the ReStore keeps these things out of the landfill, helps others afford things they need, and supports Habitat’s mission of building houses to help our partner families.

You can bring donations to either ReStore (1004 Walton Way and 3112 Washington Rd) or call 706-426-8631 to arrange for a pickup of large items. We accept almost everything except clothing, as long as it is in working condition.

Collegiate Challenge 2017 Great Success

Last week, students from the University of Virginia were with us every day as part of our Augusta/CSRA Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge 2017. As you can see, a lot of progress was made on House 75 and the floor and walls were completed. Thank you to the students and local volunteers who made this happen. We couldn’t do it without you. We would also like to thank the following restaurants for donating lunches: Papa John’s, Chick-fil-A, Mot’s Barbeque, Blimpie, and Baldino’s.

For many years, Habitat has provided alternative school break volunteer opportunities to college students.

This is a unique one-week volunteer program. Collegiate Challenge offers an education all its own. Students learn practical building skills while helping others They learn about poor living conditions and how decent, affordable housing builds strength, stability and self-reliance for families.

Welcome Our New Partner Family, Larry and Dianne

We are excited to welcome our newest partner family, Larry and Dianne and their 13-year old son. Larry and Dianne have been working in the ReStore Downtown to get their initial sweat equity hours completed prior to the start of construction on their new home. Larry, Jr. wants to help out but he is too young.

New partner family
We are so happy to welcome Larry and Dianne, our new partner family.

Both are disabled and originally from Waynesboro, Burke County. Larry is a Vietnam era Marine and a welder and has already fixed a couple of our handtrucks with his welding expertise. Both he and Dianne are very active in their church, Fairview Missionary Baptist. They work in the food and clothes pantry helping those in need. Dianne is a cook in the kitchen and they both sing in the Gospel Choir. Larry also sings in the Male Chorus.

Larry and Dianne have been big assets to us as they work on their equity hours. We are thrilled to have them as a part of the Habitat family.

The relationships we develop with partner homeowners does not end when their new home is completed; they remain friends for life.

New Home Construction to Start in February

We are very excited about 2017. We will be breaking ground on our first house in early February. Publix Super Market Charities is sponsoring the home, it will be our 75th. We are extremely grateful to Publix Super Market Charities for helping us eliminate substandard housing in Augusta and the CSRA one home and partner family at a time.

We are also very excited to welcome our new partner family, Cadaciza. She has three lovely girls, aged 8, 7, and 6. Cadaciza has been volunteering in the Downtown ReStore as she earns her sweat equity hours. She works on weekends, so working in the ReStore is perfect for her during the week. She also has a few friends and family members who are helping her earn those hours. Habitat does not give homes to people. We partner with them and they fully participate in the entire process, including helping to build their new home.

We are now signing up volunteers to assist with construction and you are invited to help us build starting in early February. All skill levels welcome! Get in now on the “ground floor.” Work is scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Construction will run until late June.

All phases and planned work are posted on the calendar at VolunteerUP. Click here to access VolunteerUP. If you are not already registered on VolunteerUP, you may open up a new account. If you need group reservations, forgotten your password, or need any other assistance with volunteering, please email the Volunteer Coordinator at . We look forward to seeing you on the job site!

If you are not able to volunteer, you may still help by giving a monetary donation. Any amount helps. Click here to donate via paypal.
